Your First Visit
If you’ve made your first appointment then we’re excited to welcome you into the practice! Here’s what to expect leading up to and through your first visit.
One Week Before:
Make childcare arrangements for any children who will not be seen at the appointment. We ask that children not be left unattended in the waiting room, but nursing infants are always welcome to stay with Mom. Your initial appointment will likely be 60 to 90 minutes.
One Day Before:
Complete all forms before your first session.
When You Arrive:
The office is open for appointments only, so please do not come earlier than instructed. When you arrive at WellPower, have a seat and relax. If you have completed the paperwork provided to you in advance of the appointment, you will be asked only to complete a one-page screening tool. If you’ve missed anything, we’ll ask you to fill it out then. If you need to complete all of the paperwork at the office, please allow 30 minutes and notify us in advance that you will need some extra time. Paperwork must be completed before the appointment so that we can spend your full appointment time focusing on you.
During Your First Appointment:
This is a relaxed environment. There is no medical table or psychiatrist’s couch. You’ll meet with your provider in a comfortable office, and begin by simply having a conversation. The more open and honest you can be with your provider, the easier it will be to develop your treatment plan. However, you are never required to talk about anything that you don’t feel ready to disclose. At WellPower, we value the perspective of the patient and family members as a key part of the treatment process. Your questions and concerns matter. Don’t worry if your provider is taking notes during your appointment; this is to ensure accuracy in your care.
After Your Appointment:
If you need a follow-up appointment, we’ll schedule it while you’re in the office so that you don’t need to worry about it later. We’ll see you next time!
